Notes

Family members have stated that his name was Henry Charles Thomure. But a census record and obituary of his son, Walter, state his name as Jewell. The Project Pioneers book and information received from Theresa Gregg give his name as Jules Benjamin, as well as his marriage certificate, then his own obit confirm him as Jules, not Henry.
I would assume they just got confused with his father's name and another family member (Charles Henry Easter).

Was living with daughter Mary Judith Aspasie in 1900 and with son Walter in 1920 This family seems to have dropped off the face of the earth in 1880. Cannot find any of them on the no matter where/how I look. Possibly they were accidentally skipped...? Either way, I do find his daughter Zoe on the 1900 census living with the Gibson family, listed as orphan. We know it is her because on the next census, when living with her husband, Mary Gibson appears again, listed as mother-in-law to Zoe's husband. There is a possibility that Jules' son Walter was living with the Dorlac family, as an "adopted" baby in 1880 - I have not yet confirmed the identity of that Walter Thomure. I am wondering if Jules' wife and mother of the children died before 1880, maybe in childbirth with Walter or something, and Jules was not able to take care of the children and so they went to live with others until they were older? It's possible, anyway.

The Ste. Genevieve Herald
1-20-1923 p1(?)
Jules Thomure Is Dead
Died at Ste. Genevieve at 3 o'clock on Sunday morning, January 14th, 1923, Jules Thomure at the age of 77 years. The funeral was from the home of his daughter Mrs. Joseph Laiben, to the Catholic Church, thence to the Valle Spring Cemetery, at ten o'clock on Monday morning. The cause of his death was chronic septic gangrene from an infected foot with which he had suffered about twenty years. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Jos. Laiben and Mrs. Anton Scherer, and two sons, Walter of Bonne Terre and Richard of Crystal City.
May he rest in peace.

1870 Census, Ste. Genevieve Twp, Ste. Genevieve Co, MO
#343/359 THOMAS***
Jules, 26, farmer, MO
Eveline, 19, MO, can't read or write
Mary, 6/12, December, MO
*** I firmly believe this record to be this family. Looks like someone just made a mistake. All the other info (besides surname) matches. They would have been living right next to Elvina's parents (who were #342/358).
